Time marches on......

Two clock projects  this summer !!!  SO this past week I decided to  revamp the grandfather wall clock.. Its cherry stained wood, and Don chose it as his 25th anniversary gift from G.E when he worked there.. BUT.. I am not a fan of dark wood...and  I do like the looks of Mackensie-Childs. I  love her whimsical painted furniture, lamps etc are so fun.. I went to the farmhouse where they produce many items a few years back... YES her stuff is pricey.. but I  found a couple things I had to have.. and have done some revamps of my stuff  in her style.

So the clock I first painted with white chalk paint as my base/ primer ... the chalk paint dried faster than the primer I had so it was my go to !  Then I started adding lots of  fun colors,  dots, lines, more dots on dots. And for inside the clock I  decoupaged some fun napkins. More dots..Spray painted the pendulum lime, and did a pearl white metallic  glaze to the entire painted area.. It fits in with out decor so much better.. I had told Don several years ago when I got so inspired by Mackensie-CHilds that I wanted to paint it.... this week he said.. "I'm surprised it took you so long to do it"  !  he knows me too well....

A few years ago, the pendulum stopped swinging, and it no longer chimes... So dear hubby looked on line and to get a replacement chime/pendulum it was going to be $100... nope.. it still keeps time.. that is fine.... so I was putting the clock back together, I used wire nippers to remove the  chime speaker, to not mess with putting it back in.... and I looked closely and there is a switch on the back of the clock.. It was in the OFF position.. I clicked it  ON and OFF a few times ... and  then came and hung the clock...added the pendulum...and low and behold.. the clock pendulum swings now... OH NO....  I remember us turning the chime OFF as to not wake guests that were staying with us, as it may bong bong bong in the night and keep them awake..  WHAT IF we forgot to turn the chime/pendulum back on and NEVER had thought about it.. just assumed it stopped working... SO  Don just hooked the speaker back up and the clock chimes and pendulum works as it should.. OOPS>>.  we feel kinda stupid... we shut the chimes off for comapny comfort..and totalllly forgot... !!!  BUT yay..it works !

She Shed revamp with mosaics

My She Shed/ Babe Cave  originally had white rocks around the base... after  years of  heavy rains and run off.... the rocks were dirty, and some had dissapeared, also having to pull weeds that worked their way thru the underlayment and the rocks..nope.. done... I purchased over 40 , 12 x 12  cement pavers... and it took me all winter and spring to mosaic and paint them.. I did down the entire one side of the SHe Shed in mosiacs, where you see them all the time. Then down the end I did some in mosaic and some were just painted.. the back side next to the property line we never really see, is all painted ones.. I repainted the  pavers where my little chairs sit out on the  "porch", then put  mosaic pavers at both sides of the porch.. I added some painted touches to the fresh paint on the porch area, and repainted the bistro chairs... Poor Don had to  level the area as best he could with out getting to crazy . It didnt have to be perfect, and I just wanted something besides dirty white rocks.. As  I was  plowing thru the neck pain trying to get all the pavers done, I kinda wished I had not taken the project on..what was I thinking.. my neck was in agony...but I powered thru it.. counting each one off the list as I got it done.. Then I thought, poor DOn, what a chore it will be.. and expected it to take a week or more to remove the old and put down the new... BUT happily we did it all in 2 days !!!  Teamwork !!!  NOW I am happy to have tackled it..and I have 4 more  pavers to mosaic and put anywhere I want.. It's sooo hot out now.. those will be  on the work table soon!

Time for a change

I made this little clock table  about 15 years ago... I took a inexpensive  plastic brown clock, and  used silicon glue to adhere it to a metal plant holder.. Years later.....  it is time to revamp... we had replaced the clock mechanism a few years ago..and it died again... sooo time for a change.. Painted the plant stand white, and used bright colors on the faux wood plastic... Then I took a map of the lake we live on...and decoupaged it where the old clock face was... once I had removed the old clock parts... and BOOM... nice and happy to see our lake table as we gaze out at our lake.
